Call for Workshop
The 2nd Open Access Conference builds on the enthusiasm generated by the First Workshop on Open Access Repositories: New Models for Scholarly Communication, which took place in April 2008, at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. We solicit for papers in any area that explores issues in Open Access Initiatives, Case Studies in the adoption and deployment of Institutional Repositories, Open Access Journals, Open Access and Intellectual Properties. The theme for this year is Open Access: Maximising Research Quality and Impact”
The workshop presents a unique opportunity for scholars, researchers, policy makers, stakeholders involved in scholarly publication to better appreciate Open access as a viable solution to existing problems in the scholarly communication.
The specific project objectives are:
- Increase understanding and awareness of open access among universities and research institutions; adoption of open access policies by these organizations to encourage innovative approaches on how ICT infrastructure and services could be used to disseminate the research results and to maximise its quality and impact.
- Sustainable open repositories and open access journals in higher education and research organisations.
Our International guest Resources Persons will specifically address the following in during the conference:
- How to maximize the visibility of research publications, improve the quality, impact and influence of research work?
- How to disseminate the results of the research in the most efficient way?
- How to showcase the quality of the research in the Universities and Research institutions to improve webometrics ranking ?
- What are the new tools to help you better measure and manage the research in your institution?
- How to generate new knowledge from existing findings, enable and encourage collaboration?
- How to bring savings to the higher education sector and better return on investment?
The workshop will include practical tutorials, presentations from cutting-edge projects and research and discussion groups.
Event format
The event will consist mainly of sessions oriented towards discussion and idea generation. Resource persons from outside Nigeria will be sponsored by eIFL.Net. These resources persons are experts in Open Access Initiative and will be most helpful in engendering dialogue and providing perspectives on Open Access Initiatives.
